South Carolina Home Educators Association (SCHEA)

Description: SCHEA is the statewide support organization for South Carolinahomeschool families. Since its formation in 1987, SCHEA has been instrumental educationally, legislatively, and favorably in supporting and promoting home education in South Carolina. SCHEA produces the annual two-day SC Homeschool Convention, complete with vendors, workshops, and nationally known keynote speakers. SCHEA operates a leaders' e-chain information system networked with support groups and associations across the state communicating events, announcements, and legislative news requiring swift action. SCHEA sponsors the annual SC Homeschool Debate Tournament each spring. SCHEA sponsors the state chapter, Rho Gamma, of the Eta Sigma Alpha National Home School Honor Society to recognize academically gifted homeschooled students in SC. SCHEA offers educational and unity-building opportunities through regional & statewide leadership training conferences. SCHEA offers SCHEAtalk, a statewide discussion loop for homeschool leaders. SCHEA maintains a website providing information important to new & veteran homeschool families. SCHEA sponsors "South Carolina Homeschool Day at the Capitol." SCHEA is a non-profit educational organization and is governed and operated by a volunteer board of directors.

Description: Insights On Education holds home school support groups the first Thursday of each month during the school year. There is no cost to join us and families in the Upstate of SC are welcome to gather with us as we share and schedule events and trips.
Requirements: Support group members should be current SC home schooling families.
Benefits: Insights on Education is a statewide home school association and offers support group outlets in the Greenville County area to all area home schooling families. During the year our meeting include home school curriculum and schooling Q/A sessions that are beneficial to families. As well, IOE shares planned events and assists families with scheduling new and fun outings and trips. Of course, Park Days are a fun must so please come join us.

Description: School's Out Support (SOS) is a volunteer-driven, South Carolina statewide organization whose mission is to support and promoteunschooling, provide information, monitor and influence legislation, offer opportunities for families to get together, and empower families to make the choices that respect the rights, needs and aspirations of their children. SOS welcomes anyone with an interest in unschooling.
Since its inception in April 2001, SOS has supported families that have made the decision to unschool as they face difficult questions and challenges. These families may wonder about socialization, the legal issues surroundingunschooling, accountability associations, or
integration of John Holt's educational philosophy into their everyday lives. Some families may
doubt their abilities, feel confused and ask themselves, "Can I really do this?" SOS encourages parents to trust themselves and their children to make good decisions and empowers them to
find the support and information they need.
Requirements: A sincere desire to live an unschooling life is all that is required of our membership.
Benefits: A forum for unschoolers to connect, support, share and plan is the heart of our online organization.

Description: SCAIHS, incorporated in 1990, is the only home school association in the nation specifically named in state statue as an alternate means of approval for home-schooling parents. It is a nonprofit, voluntary association of independent home schools. Services include--an experienced staff available from 9:30 to 5:00 Monday-Friday to provide curriculum and educational counseling, support and encouragement; permanent records and official transcripts for each student; Elementary Education Program, Middle and High School Program, and Special Needs Program; graduation ceremony and diploma; flexibility in grade placement and creativity in curriculum choices; and flexibility in determining the school calendar and daily scheduling.
Requirements: Members must--possess a minimum of a high school diploma or GED; teach reading, writing, math, science and social studies, and, in grades 7-12, literature and composition; document at least 180 days of instruction on periodic reports; and participate in annual testing for students in grades 3-12. Members submit an annual application.
Benefits: Besides the support services listed above, SCAIHS provides its members with informative newsletters, timely email updates, a curriculum resource room, and a home-school bookstore.

Description: UHU is a secular, inclusive support group. Our membership is very diverse and tolerant of a wide variety of lifestyles, religions, and backgrounds. It's very important that all our members agree to respect the choices and lifestyles of others. Including choices involving homeschoolingstyle, religion, politics, and sexual orientation. UHU includes many types ofhomeschoolers, but most are unschoolers or relaxed homeschoolers. We welcome people of all colors, creeds, and political affiliations. WTCC is a Christian-based home school co-op offering enrichment classes for Pre-K thru High School. All classes are taught from a Christian / Creationist point of view. A Statement of Faith and Code of Conduct must be signed before membership is granted.
Description: A Christian Group providing wonderful Enrichment and Supplemental Core Learning Opportunities for families with PreK - 12 graders, and support and encouragement for the teacher/moms. Classes meet weekly (Currently Thursdays 10-2 pm.) Each teacher mom is expected to assist in some way with the co-op. Opportunities include website, community relations, publicity, fundraising, teaching, desktop publishing, yearbook, field trip co-ordinator, Special Family Events Co-ordinator, facility setup and clean up, devotions, and Leadership Team: President, Vice, Treasurer, Senior High Coordinator, Jr High Coordinator, Elem Coordinator, and Pre-School Coordinator. Registration will be in August with Classes September-May. All are welcome!
Requirements: Members must sign an agreement with Biblical Based Statement of Faith, Code of Conduct, and Manner of Resolving Differences. (Matt 18)Members pay an annual fee in August. Some classes may have additional fees (ie for Native Spanish Teacher, Art Supplies, or TextBook) All members are asked to participate in an area of their giftedness according to the needs of the co-op.
